Frequently Asked Questions:

Where are you located?

Blue Mountain Fitness and Yoga studio is located in my home at 134 Hill Street in Clarksburg, Ontario, Canada.   The generous studio space is bright, clean and quiet.  There’s ample parking in the driveway and a washroom and changing space for your convenience.

Do I have to be fit to join your Intense Strength Circuit class?

No, you don’t have to be in great shape; just be willing to work hard and get ready to sweat!  Any exercise can be modified to accommodate your body and your fitness level.  As you progress, the program will become more challenging to adjust to your increased level of fitness!  You’ll soon see the changes to your body!

I’ve never practiced yoga.  What’s it all about?

Yoga is an ancient practice that helps create a sense of union in body, mind, and spirit. It brings us balance, and encourages harmony and consciousness in how we connect with ourselves and the world around us

Classical Ashtanga yoga was introduced around 2000 years ago by the Indian sage, Patanjali, as an eight-limbed path of practice.  Each limb represents a guideline for healthy living and mental and physical observances that together bring about bliss.  In our western society, we focus primarily on the third limb, the postures (or asanas) of yoga.  These are designed to purify the body, provide physical strength and flexibility and a calm, present mind.  Yoga helps maintain balanced metabolism, relieves pain, helps you look and feel younger than your age and improves your athletic performance. Yoga encourages positive thoughts and self-acceptance.

Vinyasa refers to a series of classical yoga poses that are linked together so that there is a ‘flow’ from one posture to the next.

Everybody has the perfect body for doing yoga! Anyone can do yoga, no matter how young or old you are.  Size and fitness level do not matter because there are modifications for every yoga pose. The idea is to explore your own limits, not strive for some pretzel-like perfection.

If you’re new to yoga, try out one of the Vinyasa Level 1 and 2 classes.  If you’re familiar with the postures of yoga and want more of a challenge, then try a Power Yoga class.

What is functional Fitness?

Functional fitness is any exercise that employs multiple muscle groups, rather than isolating one muscle at a time and exercising it alone.  In real life, your muscles work together as you move through your day, participate in your sports, play with your kids, or unload your groceries.  A functional exercise program like the Intense Strength Circuit training class will challenge many muscle groups at once for a serious, total-body workout that builds muscle, raises your heart rate, burns tons of calories and gets results that you can feel and see!

What should I bring and wear to class?

Please bring fitness shoes for Intense Strength circuit training class.  Wear comfortable clothing, a light T-shirt or sleeveless shell, and a light outer layer that can be taken off as you get warm.  Eat a light meal or a healthy snack before a strength class; yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach or having eaten two hours previously.  Bring a water bottle (and your yoga mat for yoga practice, if you own one.)

Will the schedule change?

I will add or reschedule classes based on your feedback.  Please let me know what you’d like, and when.  Send me a comment; I’d love to hear from you!
