Happy Spring!?
Well, it feels like it’s FINALLY arrived: after the incessant rains and cold temperatures of March and April, it seems we’ve entered into a season of gentler, warmer weather….and the promise of all that comes with it!
It’s time to pump up bike tires, polish up the kayaks and canoes, practice your golf swing and lace up your hikers!  Let’s get outdoors this summer and take advantage of our many diverse options for being healthy, active
and alive in this beautiful area!
Here are a few upcoming programs and schedule changes to mark in your calendar:
  • Tuesday Morning Outdoor Fitness: Beginning next Tuesday, May 16th, the regular indoor Strength/Yoga class will be replaced with a new Outdoor Adventure Training Fitness program.  From 9:00 -10:15 am, we’ll head outdoors for various hill and trail challenges.  Next Tuesday, we’ll meet at the Studio at 134 Hill Street and head out onto the nearby roads and trails for a fast-paced hour of total body strength and cardio fitness.  Bring a pair of rubber-tipped Nordic hiking poles, if you have them (don’t worry if you don’t), your hiking or running shoes, and water in a carrier or pocket.  We’ll finish in the studio for 15 minutes of core strength and stretching.
  • NOTE: Each week, we’ll change up the route and sometimes the starting point or activity,  so please check in by email on the evening before class for details of where to meet.  (Rain days will be spent in the studio!)
  • Tuesday evening Road Cycling group!  Begins May 16! Please bring your bike (tuned up, tires inflated), a helmet, gloves and water bottle.  We’ll begin at the Beaver Valley Community Centre at 6:30 pm and move through a  different route each week, riding between 1 and 2 hours and building essential cycling skills along the way. This drop-in series takes the place of my former “Learn to Ride” series, and will run every Tuesday throughout the months of May-July, weather permitting. Together we’ll focus on making efficient gear changes, and learn proper body positioning and pedal stroke, powerful hill climbs and safe descents, riding in a pace-line, and communication with other riders and vehicular traffic. Come when you can, or join every Tuesday! The drop-in cost is just $10 per ride. Road bikes only, please.  No riders get left behind!
  • NOTE: Please Email me to sign up each week so that I’ll know to expect you, since starting points and routes may change.
  • Vinyasa Flow YogaMondays at 6:30 pm, and Thursdays at 6:15 pm.  Add a Yoga practice to your summer sports and activities schedule to facilitate recovery and prevent injury!  An Athletic Flow Yoga class is the perfect way to end your active day, and restore your body for the one to come! A combination of strong and restorative yoga postures woven together into a flow.   Suitable for intermediate/advanced students.
  • 6:30 am Classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday:  Get your day started right, and your workout done early!  To sign up, please Email me by 8:00 pm of the night before class.  As the weather improves, some of these early classes may involve outdoor exercise options using the nearby trails and Conservation area.
  • Saturday classes: Please email me if you wish to join a Saturday Strength class or Yoga practice.
  • Meaford Harbour Run/Walk: There’s Strength in numbers!  Send me an email and let me know that you’re interested in completing this fun community event in support of the Meaford Hospital foundation!  Here’s a link to register: https://onlineregistrations.ca/or/events/148789476983501
  • Vacation schedule:  Yup!  I actually plan to take some holidays this summer! Please check my website throughout the summer to learn of Studio closures.
